The Ministry of MSME’s Office of the Growth Commissioner(MSME), Mumbai, Maharashtra, formulates policies for the country’s Micro, Small, and Medium Industries, as well as plans and programmes for their development.

It also oversees the execution of policies and actions aimed at promoting and developing the MSME sector in the country through its network of 28 MSME-Development Institutes around the country, with the State Directorates of Industries actively involved.

Small Industries Service Institute, Mumbai was founded in 1954 as the MSME-Development Institute of Mumbai. It was relocated to its own premises in Sakinaka, Mumbai, in 1960. Hon’ble Shri S.K.Wankhede, the then Minister of Industry, Maharashtra, inaugurated the MSME-DI, Mumbai (erstwhile SISI, Mumbai) Building on 17.04.1960.

Recognizing the significance, the state formed a separate Department of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises with the objective of enabling, promoting, and strengthening MSMEs’ competitiveness.

It is a programme of the State Government to revitalise, prioritise, and push for more facilitation.

Export Promotion Services

This institute assists micro, small, and medium-sized businesses with export marketing services such as export marketing training, export packaging, seminars, and awareness programmes. It advises entrepreneurs on potentials, product prospects, procedures, and Bulletin publishing, among other things.

Many of the programmes are co-sponsored by the Industry Export Promotion Council and other relevant organisations such as the Indian Institution of Packaging, the Director General of Foreign Trade, and the Director General of Anti-Dumping.

One of the most significant services provided by the Export Promotion Division is assisting units with participation in international trade fairs.
