The Additional Secretary & Development Commissioner leads the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises-Development Organization (MSME-DO) (MSME).

The Office of the Development Commissioner (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) helps the Ministry in developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating policies and programmes aimed at promoting and developing MSMEs in the country.

Through its network of 32 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises -Development Institutes (MSME-Dls); 27 Branch MSME-Dls; 4 MSME Testing Centres (MSME-TCs); and 7 MSME-Testing Stations, it also provides a comprehensive range of common facilities, technology support services, marketing assistance, and other services (MSME-TSs).

Over the last six decades, the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector has evolved as a very lively and dynamic segment of the Indian economy.

MSMEs not only serve an important role in creating large numbers of jobs at a cheaper cost of capital than major businesses, but they also aid in the industrialization of rural and backward regions, decreasing regional imbalances and ensuring a more equal distribution of national revenue and wealth.

MSMEs act as support units for larger businesses, and this sector contributes significantly to the country’s socioeconomic development. The Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (M/o MSME) envisions a vibrant MSME sector by promoting growth and development of the MSME sector, including Khadi, Village, and Coir Industries, by providing support to existing enterprises and encouraging the creation of new enterprises in collaboration with concerned Ministries/Departments, State Governments, and other Stakeholders.
